Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore 2009

May 4th, 2009

Save the Children is  launching a national campaign against Child Labour from April 30, 2009 (Anti-Child Labour Day)  – June 12, 2009 (ILO Day against Child Labour).

India is home to the largest population of children (approximately 440 million) in the world, and the highest number  of children engaged in work(over 12 million). The phrase “child labour” stereotypes images of sweatshops and mines, or children working on the streets and in factories. However, a focus on these visible forms of “labour” overlooks the many other ways in which children work. Rural working children, for example, are mainly employed in agricultural activities and make up the majority of the child work force in India. In India, many poor girls and boys work as domestic servants for rich and middle class families and most of the time, children especially girls, perform unpaid work for their families.

We invite you to lend your support to this campaign and act now to stop child labour by participating in the Sunfeast World 10K Bangalore 2009taking place on May 31, 2009.  Choose Save the Children (Bal Raksha Bharat) as the charity that you support as you participate in the 10K run.
